Motion Analysis

Unless the underlying cause of the aberrant movement, pain, or dysfunction can be determined and well-managed, the problem will keep coming back.

Poor body mechanics are the most commonly cause of musculoskeletal problems such as pain, and difficulty in functional movement.

The body adapts to the pressures from daily activity, work, exercise, and stress. Over a period of time, a combination of poor posture and repetitive movements leads to unnatural body mechanics, which in turn can lead to pain and injury and impair function. Unless the underlying cause of the aberrant movement, pain, or dysfunction can be determined and well-managed, the problem will keep coming back.

Since most musculoskeletal problems begin or worsen while we are moving, a motion analysis offers the most effective way to diagnose these problems.

At MOTIONDR., a professional motion lab led by Dr. Pai, we understand how complex the motion is and how vital it is to your wellness. We have the advanced knowledge of musculoskeletal biomechanics and take advantage of today's most advanced assessment tools for capturing and analyzing virtually any type of complex human motion such as walking, running, dancing, golfing, playing an instrument and more. This provides us with advanced musculoskeletal biomechanics data that we use to identify the poor body mechanics and this in turn enables us to provide you with an individualized solution that will allow you to once again perform daily living normally and function the best of your ability.

What is motion analysis?
Since most musculoskeletal problem begins or worsens while we're moving, a motion analysis offers the most effective way to diagnose these problems.

Motion analysis is a "dynamic" functional analysis. It is a critical evaluation method for determining poor body mechanics. It is used to analyze posture, and movements associated with daily living activities, and specific activities
such as running, dancing, golfing, or playing an instrument. Human movement is difficult to analyze by observation alone. The patterns of even the simplest movement are very complex, with many hidden factors playing a role behind the scenes. In addition, the movement is so fast that the human eye has difficulty catching and identifying all the component details of such activities.

Using the latest video motion capture analysis and computerized foot pressure measurement equipment, we can record the intact movements from different angles simultaneously and analyze the slow motion and action sequence images. This gives us a detailed understanding of how the body is moving and allows us to detect any subtle abnormality which is causing a problem.

A comprehensive motion analysis consists of:
  • Detailed functional evaluation of alignment, range of joint movement, muscle flexibility, muscle strength, and posture
  • Video movement/posture capture from different angles
  • Computerized foot pressure measurements, including pressure distribution and timing
  • Integration and interpretation of the findings
  • Expert review of the results and then recommendations
Benefits of motion analysis
  • Detect underlying causes of musculoskeletal problems
  • Enhance rehabilitation outcomes
  • Reduce the risk of future injuries
  • Improve performance
  • Speed up recovery from injury
  • Prevent musculoskeletal problems resulting from faulty biomechanic
Who need motion analysis?
  • Do you suffer from neck pain, low back pain, aching limbs, knee pain, foot or ankle pain?
  • Do you have difficulty in sitting, walking, running, dancing, playing instruments, or enjoying your favorite sport?
  • Are you recovering from injury, childbirth, or illness?
